Argentina Main Geographical Zones

III) NORTH WEST

Michel Torino Wine Yards in Cafayate, Province of Salta

This zone covers an area of 160,000 km2 (16 million hectares) with a population of 1,300,000 inhabitants, and includes all of the Province of Jujuy and 70% of the Province of Salta. The capital of Jujuy is called "San Salvador de Jujuy" with a population of 180,000 inhabitants (total in this Province 512,000 inhabitants). The capital of Salta is the city by the same name, with 370,000 inhabitants (total in this Province 866,000 inhabitants).
This is a very beautiful zone, running down from the high snow peaked Andes of 21.000 ft. high, down through a long plateau 11.500 ft. high, and then semi-tropical rain forest with the most fantastic amount of top quality hardwood timber (over 15 valuable species) virgin and almost un-exploited, onto fertile plains, with tabbacco, citrus, fruit, mango, avocado pears, banana and sugar cane plantations, a real Garden of Eden. The high area except in the Valleys, are very dry and unproductive. But it is becoming a very popular tourist area, for both Argentine and Overseas tourists.

50,000 hectares for sale in the hills of Salta with 8,000 head of cattle included. This ranch has several different microclimates, including a rain forest area. It has also lots of game, 2 varieties of deers, wild turkeys, pumas, pecarí pigs, etc. Very wild and attractive, and only two hours drive from the Airport.

One lady, whom is one of the top British Garden designers, made the following notes in her diary referring to this area "At 3,540 meters above sea level we came to a vast expanse of shale, that must be the worlds largest rockery covered as far as the eye could see with brilliant yellow flowers.

The only company in the immense landscape was a few groups of distant donkeys.

We travelled along this high plateau, marvelling yet again at the extraordinary diversity of terrain that Argentina offers." Well this area is just that, in a day's car drive one passes through many different types of landscapes, rich tabbacco plantations, open meadows, rain forests, deserts, fantastic mountain formations, fertile valleys, Indian ruins, etc...

66,000 hectares for sale in the Oran District (the best area of Salta) which has 20,000 ha. of flat agricultural land, used for sugar cane, cotton, citrus, bananas, mangoes, avocado pears, vegetables.

People whom visit the zone really love it; so wild, natural and unspoilt. Hence this area, has land investment opportunities, that are not very productive, but have an immense tourist potential.

And 46,000 ha. of rain forest hills, with the most valuable natural timber reserve of North West Argentina, of which I have a full Canadian Survey in English available. Perhaps the most interesting land investment opportunity in all the country.
In this zone the land is today worth (2008) between 100 USD upto $ 2,500 USD per hectare.

Also there are still many land investment opportunities in the agricultural and timber productive areas, with good soils and a yearly rainfall that ranges from 30 inches in the South East to 50 inches in the North East.
