Watercolour
painted by Thomas Gibson in 1819 setting up the
boundaries of Estancia "Los Yngleses"
in General Lavalle, Province of Buenos Aires.
At the beginning of the year 1819, Thomas Gibson set sail from Scotland with the object of founding in Buenos Aires a branch of his father’s firm, John Gibson & Sons. After which he bought many more farms & ranches, of which “Los Yngleses” and 5 others still remain in family hands. The above is a water colour self portrait painted by Thomas, of himself with rifle in hand his 2 brothers alongside, the local gauchos around and his wife Clementina Corbett behind with a baby in arms and 3 children standing beside.
